Officer Childers has been assigned as the Kenmore Storefront Officer since 1999. He has been with the King County Sheriff's Office since 1985. Officer Childers assignments prior to assuming the storefront duties have included 7 years of patrol, in the Kenmore area and 5 ½ years as a D.A.R.E. officer, in the Northshore School District

  • Officer Childers spends the majority of his time working on community related issues. Some of his duties include are but not limited to:
  • Working on neighborhood problems that can’t be easily resolved by neighbors themselves,
  • Conducting home and business security inspections,
  • Managing the city volunteer force relating to police services,
  • Assisting patrol officers as needed,
  • Working with students and staff at Kenmore Junior High and Inglemoor High School,
  • Organizing and instructing the Junior Academy,
  • Establishing and managing the cities Block watches,
  • Arranging community meetings,
  • Providing safety lectures to preschool and elementary children and any other quality of life concerns.

Since one of the jobs of the storefront officer is to manage citizen volunteers, Officer Childers would like to let Kenmore residents know that there are numerous volunteer positions available for anyone who is interested. Volunteers will be matched with jobs that are closely related to their interests as possible. A simple background check is all that’s required for applying.
