Kenmore 2015 Special Events & Volunteer Calendar

Join Our Volunteer Team!

The City of Kenmore is currently accepting applications for two on-going volunteer opportunities for adults. Applications for Park Stewards and Kenmore Events Team are due on April 10, 2015.

Park Stewards Volunteer
This important volunteer lead position helps the City in keeping watch over and maintaining our Kenmore park system. Park Stewards conduct weekly park patrols and direct a Stewardship Project (weeding, clean up, etc.) each month at their assigned park. Stewards attend training on invasive plants, volunteer project management, and a volunteer orientation. This position requires a time commitment of approximately 8-10 hours per month. Volunteers in this role should enjoy the outdoors, working with people, and making a difference in their community.

Kenmore Events Team Volunteer (KET)
This dedicated team of volunteers work closely with their fellow KET volunteer team members in helping the City in planning and production of the City's four annual community events: 4th of July Fireworks Show, Summer Concert Series, Kenmore Play Day, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Festival. KET positions include event operations and logistics, event concierge & volunteer coordination, parking and security, sponsorship and marketing, entertainment and children's activities, hospitality coordination, event assistant, and set up. This position requires a time commitment of approximately 4-8 hours per month.

Kenmore Hydroplane Cup
Saturday, April 11
Kenmore Boat Launch & Log Boom Park

The Seattle Outboard Association is bringing back the Kenmore Hydroplane Cup for its second year on Saturday, April 11. The event will be held on the north end of Lake Washington at the Kenmore Boat Launch and Log Boom Park. The timed exhibition race will feature a variety of boats including two cylinder and three-and-up cylinder boats, Native American war canoe, and junior hydroplanes. Competitors will race one or two boats at a time up the Sammamish River, navigate around the challenging oval course and back to the Kenmore Boat Launch.

The original race, known as the "Slough Race," was wildly popular between 1928 and 1976 and drew crowds of spectators between 40,000 and 80,000. The idea came to fruition in 2013 after local artist Gaul Culley organized the Sammamish Slough Race exhibit at Kenmore City Hall, which drew hundreds of racing fans.
