Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Kenmore’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. The City’s plan is part of a larger document developed in coordination with King County, and its approval allows the City to apply for hazard mitigation project grants through 2020. The Kenmore City Council approved a resolution adopting the Plan in November 2015. The purpose of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is to identify the hazards that can affect the community, identify appropriate mitigation actions and follow through with an effective mitigation strategy. Mitigation encourages long-term reduction of hazard vulnerability and can reduce the enormous cost of disasters to property owners and all levels of government. Mitigation also can protect critical community facilities, reduce exposure to liability, and minimize post-disaster community disruption.
