| When Do I Need a Plumbing Permit? A plumbing permit is required for any installation, alteration, repair, replacement or remodel of any plumbing system regulated by the Uniform Plumbing Code per Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) Section 103.1.1 - Plumbing Permit Application. A plumbing permit is not required for the following per UPC Section 103.1.2: - Stopping of leaks
in drains, soil, waste, or vent pipe, where the concealed trap, drainpipe,
soil, waste or vent pipe is not defective or requires replacing. To
remove and replace with the same material requires a plumbing permit.
