SR 522 Phase 1, Stage 1 Bid Results
Location:
State Route 522 - 60th Ave NE to 73rd Ave NE
Background
The project will widen and improve SR522 to ease congestion in the corridor through Kenmore, increase pedestrian and vehicular safety, improve the appearance of the corridor and improve the function of the major intersections within the project limits. The proposed improvements include:
- Modifications and capacity improvements to the SR522 intersections at 61st Ave NE, 65th Ave NE, 68th Ave NE and 73rd Ave NE
- Realignment of NE181st Street to a single intersection at 68th Ave NE
- New sidewalk along the north side of SR522 from 73rd Ave NE to 60th Ave NE
- Construct an underpass for the Burke-Gilman Trail at 73rd Ave NE
- Access management improvements to improve safety
- Improvements to 68th Ave NE from NE 175th to NE 185th Street
- Addition of landscaping, curb, gutter and street lighting within the corridor
- Conversion of overhead utilities to underground
Status:
The Phase I project has been separated into three stages to facilitate construction based on available funding. The project limits for each stage are:
Stage 1 - SR522 from 73rd Ave NE to 65th Ave NE, including portions of 68th Ave NE, 73rd Ave NE and 181st Ave NE.
Stage 2 - SR522 from 65th Ave NE to 60th Ave NE, including portions of 61st Ave NE and 68th Ave NE.
Stage 3 - Burke Gilman Trail Underpass at 73rd Ave NE
The Stage 3 project is expected to be completed in early Summer 2008. The Stage 1 project was awarded
to MidMountain Construction in May and construction is scheduled to begin in July 2008.
