Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement involves volunteer opportunities that are typically project based and require training and a three month to a year commitment.


Emergency Volunteer Team

These volunteers will be trained to help the City respond to a local disaster. These volunteers will help with operating a volunteer reception center and will assist the City in shelter management and other emergency management tasks as needed.  Tasks may include office work, volunteer training, logistics management, donation management, food service/hospitality, and a variety of other disaster services.  Emergency Volunteer Team members must be 18 years and older.


Public Safety Volunteers

The Kenmore Police Department “Citizen Volunteer Program" allows residents to participate in wide variety of community programs, e.g. house checks, delivery of citations to the court, false alarm enforcement, community traffic safety, storefront clerk and more. The following are the qualifications to become a Kenmore Police Volunteer:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Pass a background check
  • Complete a polygraph examination
  • Be willing to commit to four hours of service a month

Volunteer Outreach and Coordination

The City offers volunteer management assistance positions in two areas:

Special Events Volunteer Coordination:  Kenmore Events Team (KET) requires a 1 year commitment.  Click on the link for more information.
Volunteer Assistant Internship is offered to a dedicated senior high school or college student. This position assists City staff in recruiting, scheduling, training, and supervising volunteers at a variety of events and projects throughout the year. This position requires a 1 year time commitment of approximately 6- 8 hours per month.


Boards & Commissions

Residents also play an important role in local government by serving on boards and commissions or as volunteers on various advisory committees to make Kenmore a better City.
